Padel club membership pricing

A typical UK padel membership costs £25 to £60 a month and buys two things: an earlier booking window and 10 to 25% off a court. Both are discounts on peak, and peak is the one part of the building that doesn't need help.

The break-even

Take a £40 monthly membership with 20% off. At the UK average listed price of £34 per court hour (Playskan, 23 October 2026), each hour saves the member £6.80. The membership costs £480 a year, so the member is in profit after 71 court-hours, about one 90-minute game a week.

That calculation assumes the member keeps the whole court discount. If four players split both the bill and the saving, the member personally saves £1.70 an hour and breaks even after about 283 hours. Discounts applied only to a member's share need the same calculation.

A discount bought by players who already pay full price reduces court income unless it generates enough extra play or other spending to offset it. The weekly player was already paying full price. The discount is a rebate to your most loyal customers.

Three numbers to check in your own club

The booking window. MATCHi's UK platform data puts the average booking lead time at 5.5 days. Clubs commonly sell 10 to 16 day windows to members. That average does not tell you how members behave. Check their booking lead times before assuming they use the extra window.

Four players, one discount. Padel is played by four people and a discount may attach to the whole court or only to a member's share. Where it attaches to the court, one member books, one subscription is paid, four people play cheaper. Price that deliberately or it prices you.

Who reaches weekly play. SmashClub published an activation funnel in August 2026 from two clubs over 90 days. Of players who played once, between 4.2% and 19.2% went on to play weekly. Those are their figures from two examples. If anything like that holds for you, a membership that breaks even at one game a week is aimed at a small slice of your players, and offers nothing to the majority who never got past their first game.

The six models UK clubs sell

  • Cheap access. £15 to £50 a month for a longer booking window and a discount. The weakest model once supply catches up.
  • Community and wellness. £40 to £60 a month, sometimes with a joining fee. Sauna, events, a capped membership. Holds if the cap is real.
  • Location premium. £145 to £285 a month at the top of the London market. A ticket to a postcode, worth what the scarcity is worth.
  • Private club. £200 to £500 a year, courts cheap or included, waiting list. The oldest durable model in racket sports.
  • Unlimited. Avoid for indoor peak. You can't sell the same scarce hour to a heavy user on a flat fee and to a walk-in at full price.
  • Founder credit. Prepaid play credit for a capped group, usually sold before opening. The most interesting new structure in the UK, and the one with the most questions to answer.

If you sell founder credit, answer these first

  • Does credit cost more on peak? If not, a hundred founders can take Friday at 7pm at a discount. Publish a multiplier.
  • Is the cap small enough to mean something? A hundred names is status. Four hundred is a mailing list.
  • What happens to unused credit? Expiring, rolling or refundable. Pick one and say so on the page.
  • Can you keep a rate lock? Energy and build costs haven't tracked inflation. A lifetime cap is a decision, not a marketing line.

What to sell instead

UK off-peak occupancy ran at 47% to 54% in the first half of 2026 on MATCHi's data. That's the half of the building that's actually for sale.

  • One public court rate, a seven-day window for everyone.
  • A light paid tier for booking access and food and drink, with no court discount.
  • A capped prepaid tier: a wallet, not unlimited, with peak costing more credit.
  • A named off-peak product: leagues, Americanos, morning play, juniors. Sold as belonging, not as a discount.

Stop selling membership against peak, where you have nothing spare, and start selling it against the hours you can't replace.
